About My Books

Book cover of a novel titled The Fortress by Dan Limesand.

The Fortress

In the Fortress, where people are known only by numbers and unauthorized human interaction warranted severe penalties, Jake Goldman wasn’t supposed to find love but did.

A powerful senator partners with an overly ambitious CEO of a large private defense and security firm on a project they feel could revolutionize how criminals are dealt with – an experimental co-ed prison. After awakening from a tragic accident, Jake finds himself swept up into this experimental project located somewhere in the vast, unforgiving Mojave Desert for a crime he didn’t commit.

No memory exists between Jake's moment of finally being released and the alarming realization of waking up in his bed at home. When told by others, including Jake’s loving parents, that he had been in a six-month, accident-induced coma, Jake sets off on a dangerous path to prove the existence of his secretive incarceration and his new love, Carin Williams.

Inspiration: A 1990 L.A. Times article on NIMBYism regarding public sentiment about being tough on crime, wanting more prisons to lock offenders up, but no one wanting new prisons near them. The Fortress is a twist on prison reform, wrapped in secrecy by powerful individuals with both good and bad intent.

Oracle - The Fortress Sequel

Powerful people will do almost anything to get access to game-changing technology.

Jake Goldman’s fledgling security firm takes a quantum leap forward by acquiring Oracle, a highly coveted AI-enabled software program capable of connecting dots between past crimes and events yet to occur. The U.S. intelligence community and a large private defense and security contractor, SecTec, desperately want access to Oracle to help avert a suspected large-scale terrorist attack.

Both the government and SecTec pursue questionable paths to access Oracle, with SecTec deploying Aly Durchenko, an extraordinarily capable woman, to infiltrate Jake’s world. Jake and his wife find themselves in the crosshairs of the government, SecTec, terrorists, and Aly whose presence pits Jake against his partners and opens Jake’s deep wounds with a long-term nemesis and SecTec CEO, Erik Hunt.

In Progress: Catalyst

Far more guns are owned per US citizen compared to any other country in the world. Mass shootings are epidemic with over 500/year in 2022 and 2023 alone, and political will is non-existent to curb deadly, high-capacity assault weapons. A highly decorated former Navy Seal commander, Ben Ryker, is forced to face this national problem when a shooter enters his daughter’s first grade class and opens fire. This tragedy puts Ben and his best friend and former Navy Seal buddy on a collision course to confront powerful forces that will pull out all stops to ensure their power and gun laws never change.

Projected Publishing Timing: February 2027
